SMC8014SM8014 Wireless Model

The SMC8014 comes in two flavors, with WiFi and without WiFi.  When configuring public IP addresses the process is the same and this document describes the process for the Comcast  version, which looks just like the above pictures except it is black.

Right now your network should look like this:

(Comcast Network)---------[SMC8014]------------------[Your Computer]

Before you start, you should have received the Static IP address information from Comcast.

You should have received the IP address information from Comcast, and It should look similar to this:

IP Address: 75.144.239.225    (not my IP, just made it up. perhaps someone elses)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.252
Gateway IP: 75.144.239.226
DNS1: 68.87.68.162
DNS2: 68.87.74.162

Before you configure anything. If you are looking at this document while connected to the SMC8014 you should see the Gateway address that Comcast has assigned to you just below.

This IP should match the Comcast assigned gateway IP address:  23.22.76.170

If not then restart the SMC8014 and refresh this page to see if the IP address changes to the Gateway Comcast assigned in the email. Why? Comcast assigns an IP address on SMC8014. This IP will be the Gateway address you will assign on your Firewall or Router. If you do not see the Gateway IP address that Comcast assigned being displayed then there is a problem with Comcast, call and have it corrected.

Now while your computer is plugged directly into the LAN side of the SMC8014 use "ipconfig /all" to get the address of LAN side Gateway or DHCP server. Note: Use "ipconfig /all" to determine the IP address of the SMC8014, shows up as the Gateway address on your computer.

Open your favorite browser, Internet Explorer or FireFox and enter the IP address of the SMC in the address and press "Enter".

You should see a log in screen, for Comcast the default user name is "cusadmin" and the password is "highspeed".

SMC8014 Log in

Click on "Firewall", then select "Disable Firewall for True Static IP Subnet Only".

SMC8014 Select Firewall, Select Disable Firewall

That's it for the SMC8014 configuration there is nothing else to configure on the SMC8014!  Now you need to configure your Firewall or Router with the Static IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway address and DNS information.

When you are done your network should look like this:

(Comcast Network)----------------[SMC8014]--------------------[Your Firewall / Router]--------------------[Office Computers]
